Ways to Combat Excessive Perspiration

With summer underway it is more likely that we will sweat a little more often than we would during the cooler months of the year. It is normal and not something to worry about for most people as perspiration serves to cool the body. When the cooling system of  the body breaks down, heat stroke can result. For some people however, excessive sweating can cause social problems. Products such as antiperspirant and deodorant can alleviate the problem, but for people who pore out rivers of sweat a little more is needed.

Dr. Keith Lafayette, a dermatologist who practices in California, says that people who apply antiperspirants and deodorants after they shower run the danger of having their water still on their skin after drying wash the product off. In order to obtain the full benefits of the product it is best to wait a little bit until the skin completely dries and then apply the product.

Choices in clothing can also help keep the level of body moisture down. Wearing clothes made out of multiple types of fabric decreases the ability of the clothes to absorb moisture from the skin. Fabrics made purely out of cotton pull sweat away from the skin. Wearing a cotton undershirt during the summer months will not only help keep you cool, it will also keep the water level down.
